The EHIC European Health Insurance card has now been replaced by the GHIC Global Health Insurance card.
If your EHIC card has not expired this will still be valid. But if you would prefer to get the new GHIC you can apply for this up to 6 months before your current card expires.
Where do I apply?
You will need a separate card for each member of your family. You can apply from the official government website at: https://www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/healthcare-abroad/apply-for-a-free-uk-global-health-insurance-card-ghic/
Do I still need travel insurance?
You will still need to purchase travel insurance as the EHIC/GHIC does not replace or provide an alternative. It will not cover any private medical healthcare or costs such as, being flown back to the UK, mountain rescue in ski resorts, or lost or stolen property. Please be aware the EHIC?GHIC card is not valid on cruises.
We hope the above information is useful
