Is there cover for my ski pack if I’m too unwell to use it?
Direct Travel/AllSafe (Allianz)
Under Direct Travel or AllSafe policies, there is cover available if you cannot participate in a prepaid activity due to you, a travelling companion, or family member (participating in the activity) becoming ill or injured, or developing a medical condition.
Please note that the illness, injury or medical condition must be disabling enough to make a reasonable person not participate in the activity. A doctor must also advise the affected traveller not to participate in the activity before the activity takes place. If that isn’t possible, a doctor must either examine or consult the traveller within 48 hours of the activity or as soon as reasonably possible, to confirm the decision not to attend.
You are covered under the following section:
Section WS2 - If you are unable to use your pre-paid ski pack
If you were admitted to a hospital for emergency and necessary medical treatment as an in-patient, or confined to your trip accommodation on medical advice, and therefore unable to use the facilities provided by your ski pack, you can make a claim per 24-hours for loss of ski pack use due to injury or illness.
There is cover for piste closure with the Freespirit winter sports extension. This would be for a proportional refund following the loss of use of your ski pack, following your injury or illness during your trip. Please note that you would need confirmation from a treating doctor, and that reimbursement is based on the number of days you are incapacitated.
Goodtogo (Red Sands)
The ‘piste closure’ section of Goodtogo policies covers you for the unused portion of your ski pack costs if you are unable to use the ski pack facilities because of your serious injury or illness occurring during the trip. Bear in mind that these costs will need to have been paid for (or contracted to be paid for) before your trip starts.
This cover is only provided if:
- You have not curtailed your trip
- You have written confirmation and have been certified unable to ski by a medical practitioner
- There is written confirmation that no refund is available for the unused ski pack by your tour operator’s or the ski resorts representative.
