Currently, our policies do not offer cover for travel disruption caused by volcanic ash clouds.
This is in reference to the following volcanic eruptions in Iceland:
- 2010. The Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupted, causing safety concerns with regards to aircrafts flying through the ash cloud. Airspace was closed for a period of time, causing widespread travel disruption in Europe.
- 2011. The Grimsvötn eruption also caused travel disruption due to volcanic ash, however this cleared much sooner than the Eyjafjallajökull eruption.
