There are differing types of pet care and claimable sections across our policies. Please see below for the specific information regarding pets and service animals:
Direct Travel/AllSafe (Allianz)
You can make a claim under the following sections with regards to a service animal.*
- Section A: Trip Cancellation - You can make a claim under this section if “you, a travelling companion, family member, or your service animal dies on or after the date your policy was issued”.
- Section B: Trip Interruption - You can make a claim under this section if “you, a travelling companion, family member, or your service animal dies during your trip.”
- Section P: Optional Sports Cover - You can make a claim if you cannot participate in one or more of your prepaid activities during your trip due to “the death of your family member or your service animal on or within 30 days prior to the scheduled start date of the activity”.
*Note that under the Direct Travel and AllSafe policies, a ‘service animal’ is defined as: any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual or other mental disability. Examples of work or tasks include, but are not limited to guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, and pulling a wheelchair. Guard dogs and emotional support animals as well as any other animal species (whether trained or untrained) are not included under this definition.
You can make a claim under Section B1 - Emergency Medical & Associated Expenses, if your domestic dog(s)/cat(s) is/are in a kennel/cattery during your trip and your return to your home has been delayed due to bodily injury, illness, or disease.
Goodtogo (Red Sands)
There are kennel and cattery expenses covered under Policy B, Section 13 of Goodtogo policies. They will pay up to the amount shown in the schedule of cover for any additional kennel or cattery fees for each full period of 12 hours that you are delayed following the delayed return of your pre-booked flight/train/coach/sea trip to the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or BFPO. Or any additional kennel or cattery fees for each full period of 12 hours that you are unable to return home due to your illness.
This is provided you have obtained written confirmation from the airline, carrier, or their handling agents of the period of delay, or have contacted our 24/7 assistance team about your medical claim.
